BNI : Returning to One of the World’s Largest Business Networking Organizations
For entrepreneurs, business owners, and professionals, relationships are often just as important as products, services, or marketing. One organization that has built its entire philosophy around this principle is BNI – Business Network International, the world’s largest business networking organization.
My connection with BNI goes back many years.
During my time with Pattaya Channel TV, I had the opportunity to become involved with the early development of BNI in Pattaya and was among the founding members helping establish the local chapter. At the time, BNI was still relatively new to many businesses in the region, but its structured approach to networking quickly attracted entrepreneurs looking to build meaningful business relationships.
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a BNI meeting again as a guest and reconnect with members of the local business community.
It was interesting to see how much the organization has grown over the years while still maintaining the same core principle that made it successful from the beginning:
“Givers Gain.”
What Is BNI?
Founded in 1985 by Ivan Misner, BNI has grown into a global organization with thousands of chapters across dozens of countries.
Unlike traditional networking events where participants simply exchange business cards, BNI operates through a highly structured referral system designed to help members generate business opportunities through trusted introductions.
The concept is simple:
Rather than trying to sell directly to everyone in the room, members build relationships and become ambassadors for one another’s businesses.
When opportunities arise, referrals are passed to the most suitable member within the network.
The Famous Early-Morning Meetings
Anyone who has ever attended BNI knows one thing immediately:
You need to be an early riser.
Most meetings begin very early in the morning, often before the regular business day starts. While many newcomers initially find the schedule challenging, it quickly becomes clear why the format works.
Members arrive focused, motivated, and ready to discuss business before the distractions of the day begin.

While I am no longer an active member, it was great to reconnect with the networking environment that helped shape many business relationships during my years in Pattaya.
The professionalism, energy, and commitment of the members were immediately noticeable.
I met entrepreneurs from a variety of industries, discussed current business trends, exchanged ideas, and learned about several new projects being developed in Thailand.
What stood out most was the willingness of members to help one another. In an increasingly digital world, genuine face-to-face business relationships remain incredibly valuable.
Why BNI Continues to Grow
The reason BNI continues to expand globally is simple:
People prefer doing business with people they know and trust.
Technology has changed how companies communicate, but trust is still built through relationships.
BNI provides a framework that encourages accountability, consistency, and mutual support among its members.
For entrepreneurs entering a new market, launching a startup, or looking to expand their professional network, BNI can provide access to a valuable ecosystem of business leaders and decision-makers.
Final Thoughts
Looking back, being involved with BNI during its early development in Pattaya was a valuable chapter of my professional journey.
Returning as a guest years later reminded me why the organization has remained successful for nearly four decades.
The businesses, industries, and technologies may change, but the fundamentals of networking remain the same: build relationships, create trust, and help others succeed.
That philosophy continues to make BNI one of the most influential business networking organizations in the world.
