  • Call to Action Buttons Important buttons like “Buy Now” or “Confirm” are usually bigger and more prominent. The goal is to make them quick and easy to hit.

  • Navigation Placement Frequently used menus are placed where users can access them easily. On desktop, corners of the screen are effective since the pointer “stops” there. On mobile, bottom navigation works well because it’s closest to the thumb.

  • Mobile Friendly Targets Apple and Google both recommend minimum touch target sizes (around 44–48px). Why? Because small targets make users miss and retry, slowing them down.

  • Form Design A large, clear “Submit” button saves time and reduces errors compared to a small, hidden one.

If you’re just starting out, here are some quick tips to apply Fitts’s Law in your projects:

  • Think thumb first: On mobile, always check if your main buttons can be easily reached by the thumb.
  • Don’t be afraid of big buttons: Bigger doesn’t mean “ugly” it often means “usable.”
  • Give breathing room: Keep enough space between clickable elements so users don’t tap the wrong one.
  • Prioritize actions: Make the most important actions easier to reach and more visible than secondary ones.
  • Test it yourself: Before shipping a design, try clicking or tapping fast. If you miss, your users will too.
