Will You Keep Our Secret, Mr Moon?

A letter to the Moon

Mr Moon, I look at you,

And see you looking back at me,

I know you must have seen a thing or two,

But will you keep our secret?

🌜🌜🌛🌛

From my window, I peer out,

And see you sometimes smile.

🌗🌗🌗

Do you ever wonder what it’s all about?

Or do you really not want to know?

🌔🌔🌔

I bet you have some tales to tell,

About the things you’ve seen.

🌑🌑🌑

Let’s not forget their personal,

So, I need you not to tell.

🌜🌜🌜

Maybe I should shut the blinds,

But where’s the fun in that?

🌗🌗🌗

If people look and really mind,

Is that because you let them see?

🌝🌝🌝

Mr. Moon I look at you.

And see you looking back at me.

I know you must have seen a thing or two,

But will you keep our secret?

[**Author’s note: **For the poets that read this: This is a poem that I describe as a “sandwich poem.” The format is that the first and the last stanzas are quatrains and are the same with the same rhyme ABAC (i.e. like two pieces of bread). In between are couplets of any format you like or any number of stanzas you like, as if you were making a sandwich. In mine, there are six couples, each representing one of six possible ingredients. The first line of each pair of couplets rhymes with the first line of the next, i.e. (AB AC), (DE DF), (GH GI).
