Is Nazar Real Or It’s In Our Mind Only?

Yesterday, I learned a beautiful lesson about ourselves and the power of our thoughts.

Many of us have heard people say, “Nazar lag jayegi.”😶‍🌫️ Whenever we are doing something good and people keep commenting on it, we sometimes start believing that their words can affect our success.

Recently, I was talking to my sister about cycling. Every evening, I go out for a ride, and almost every day, some auntie has something to say:

“Why are you cycling so much? You’re already thin.”

“What are you trying to achieve by cycling?” 🚴

At first, I ignored these comments. But slowly, a thought entered my mind: “What if they give me nazar? What if something goes wrong and I can no longer continue cycling?” Because of this, I started cycling less, especially when I knew those people would be around.

When I shared this with my sister, she said something that made me stop and think.

She told me, “It’s all in our mind. If you believe that someone can harm you just by looking at you or talking about you, then you’ll start acting according to that belief. But if you truly believe that nobody can stop you from doing what you love, then their words lose their power.”

She also reminded me that faith matters. If I trust God, then I should trust that even if difficulties come, I will be able to handle them. Why should I stop myself before anything has even happened?

That thought changed my perspective.

I realized that before anyone else’s words could affect me, I was already affecting myself. I was the one reducing my cycling. I was the one creating fear in my own mind. I was blaming “nazar” for something that I had chosen to stop doing.

In that moment, I made a decision. I will continue doing what I enjoy without constantly worrying about what others think or say. Whether people praise me, criticize me, or question me, I don’t want their opinions to decide my actions.

Maybe the biggest lesson was not about whether nazar is real or not. The real lesson was that fear becomes powerful only when we give it power.

And from now on, I want to trust myself, trust my efforts, and strengthen my faith in God. Nobody can harm me simply because they think something about me. The only person who can stop me is me. 😊
