Perhaps you’ve come across the word “Selah” before. When I first encountered it, the word immediately captured my attention because I found it beautiful and satisfying to pronounce, not fully knowing what the word meant at that time. Several months later, I stumbled upon its definition from one of the social media apps.

Selah in the Bible is believed to be a liturgical-musical mark or pause in a text. It also appears at the end of a verse or paragraph, most often used in the book of Psalms in the Bible. It encourages the readers to Selah which means to pause, rest, and reflect on the word of God, allowing us to fully absorb and soak in what we’ve just read.

There are times when we feel overwhelmed by the sudden waves in our lives, making it so difficult to keep up and be sane. The storms in our minds and the whirlwind of emotions caused us to lose focus, demanding our attention.

It’s tiring.

Beloved, God is telling us to Selah; to pause and reflect. Amid this busy world we’re living in, the loud noises from our surroundings, and the shouting voices in our heads, all we need is a quiet place and alone time so we can hear God’s whisper.

Go inside your room. Read the Bible. Meditate in His words. Take a moment to feel His presence.

I know you’re tired so give to God whatever burdens you are carrying. The thing you are worrying about, and all your anxieties, because He cares for you. Let Him restore you. Be still in the quietness, and praise Him for His goodness. Remind yourself of the last time you’ve encountered His faithfulness. The joy you’ve felt when He finally answered your long-awaited prayers. The time when you felt rejected and unloved, yet felt that His love is enough and unchanging. Allow yourself to slow down, and pause for a while, for He will reveal astounding things you could ever imagine.

So be still, and know that He is God.

-Love, My.
