Succeeding or Winning

Are they the same thing?

This is a definition that originates in the personal (mine) but propagates to the internet via medium.com.

Examples:

Succeeding. A verb indicating an ongoing succeed process. To succeed is to overcome any number of obstacles to achieve an objective and move on.

Winning. A verb indicating coming out on top of everyone present and playing in any given contest.

Do these two processes sound like the same thing?

In a free country, the answer could be yes, maybe, no, or anything at all, really.
