4. Feline Leukemia Virus -FeLV- is a cancer-causing retrovirus.

FeLV can cause severe anemia and weaken the immune system, making the cat prone to various infections, infertility, and lymphoma. there is no cure for FeLV, but with proper treatments, cats can live long and healthy lives.

FeLV is transmitted from cat to cat through saliva, blood, nasal secretions, urine, and feces. Bite wounds, deep scratches, and activities like sharing food or water bowls, using the same litter box, or grooming each other can all spread the disease. Mother cats can also pass it on to their kittens while they are still growing in the womb or through their milk when they are nursing.

Every cancer has its own set of symptoms, and not every cat will have the same ones. It’s also vital to understand that some symptoms are more generic, such as, Persistent fever, Consistent diarrhea, urinary tract infections, or respiratory illnesses Whether it’s seizures or neurological problems, Losing weight, Appetite loss, Chronic or recurring infections, Inflamed gums or mouth, Enlarged lymph nodes.

Treatments, How to prevent Disease,

Although there are no treatments for FeLV, there are several things you can do to make an infected cat’s life easier and more comfortable.

• If your cat has a secondary infection, treat any existing health conditions.
• Because your cat’s immune system is compromised, keep him as healthy as possible.
• Schedule a six-month appointment with your veterinarian — FeLV-positive cats need to be checked more frequently to detect secondary infections.
• Avoid Spreading the Infection, do not let the cat outside or around uninfected cats. If you already have an uninfected cat in your house, keep them as far apart as possible.
• If you have an infected cat at home, you should avoid getting a new cat.
• If you notice any changes in cat behaviors, consult with your veterinarian.
