With the introduction of the iPhone by Steve Jobs back in 2007, the accessory market has grown widely. You can find just about any sort of charger, stand, or battery of your choice. With this increase of products it can be hard to find one that’s built well because everyone seems to be pushing stuff out so quickly. Most stands for the iPhone are made to sit on your desk or night stand, but what if you want to use it in the car, the garage, in bed,or in the kitchen? Do you want to have a stand that can do it all, or one for each task? For the past week I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing the HFD-17 from ABCOTech. It’s the type of stand that you can use everywhere.

The HFD-17 is comprised of two clamps — one for holding your mobile device and the other for connecting to a surface. The two clamps are joined in the middle by a very strong, but flexible gooseneck-style arm. The bendable arm can be used just about any way you can imagine to bend it. I personally use it one of two ways — either to suspend my phone from a high point on my desk or to connect to my bedside table.

I was very impressed by the device clamp and how wide the mouth opened. I use my iPhone 6 Plus with it and the clamp was more than accommodating for it. This is really what sets the HFD-17 clamp apart from other holders in the market — it can hold most phones available today. In addition to its adjustability, the device clamp also has a 360 degree rotating head that allows you to use your device at any angle or orientation. Both the phone clamp and the mounting clamp have soft rubber to prevent your device and surface from being damaged.

When reviewing this type of phone stand, I like to inspect the springs because that’s what could end up being a deal breaker on some I’ve seen in the past. I’m happy to say the HFD-17 seems to have strong metal springs inside on both clamps.

One suggestion for improvement I have is the name. HFD-17 has a name makes referencing it difficult in such a competitive market. I don’t feel that people are going to grasp it as fast as they would say if it was called the iBendable. That’s just my opinion of the name but to each there own.

ABCOTech’s HFD-17 clip-on stand is highly recommended for anyone who wants flexibility when using their mobile devices handsfree. It retails for $12.
