Logical/Serendipity
Taste is a “logical” variable.
The factors that I can adjust to determine the taste of coffee are
the grind, the temperature of the hot water, the pouring method, the steeping time, etc.
There are a multitude of factors that I can adjust.
I also need to determine the variety of beans and roasting method when I
purchase the coffee.
My wife told me that this was the best coffee she had ever tasted.
No acidity, no aftertaste, no bitterness,
mellow and caffeine-free.
I’m a very demanding customer, but
I’m a science guy, and “logical” coffee is adjustable.
But today
happened to unintentionally brew the coffee at
my preferred grind.
However, I thought that today’s coffee was the best.
I may have been spoiled by the best coffee of the past and neglected to make further adjustments
.
Just as in mathematics, when you reduce three dimensions to two,
it is easy to see how the taste of the coffee has changed
by reducing it to a single variable.
Unintentionally and accidentally, it was a different grind,
today’s coffee.
What should have been a failure in my opinion
turned out to be a classy finish.
Serendipity, indeed.
Logical thinking and a lot of trial and error are
the allies of good coincidences.
Coincidence does not smile on the unprepared.
