Alhaji Kwabena Frimpong was one of Ghanaian highlife’s superstars. Unfortunately, there is not much written about him, so this article will be painfully short. I’ve made up for that loss by giving you an extra track to enjoy in one of my favorite genres.
Originally from the Ashanti-Akim region, he joined a band right after completing elementary school. After playing guitar and singing in several bands for years, he joined the band Vis A Vis in the 1970’s. He was a prolific songwriter and had many hits with them before forming his own band, the Cubanos Fiestas. Some of the members from Vis A Vis appear on Frimpong’s recordings with the Cubanos Fiestas.

K. Frimpong died in 2005 in Kumasi, Ghana. His two sons are rappers.
This track is from his debut album and translates to “Come Back My Love.” It was his greatest hit with the Cubanos Fiestas.
