TV Wall Mounting in Dubai — The Complete Guide to Wall Types, Brackets, and Cable Concealment

Mounting a TV on a Dubai apartment wall should be straightforward. In practice, it is the single most requested handyman service we provide — because the combination of concrete walls, heavy modern TVs, and cable management requirements makes it a job that benefits significantly from professional execution.
This guide covers everything a Dubai resident needs to know about TV mounting.
Understanding Your Wall
The first and most important factor in TV mounting is your wall type. Dubai apartments have three common wall constructions, each requiring a different mounting approach.
Poured concrete walls are the most common in Dubai apartment buildings. They are extremely strong and provide excellent support for heavy TVs. However, they require a hammer drill with masonry bits to penetrate. Standard cordless drills cannot make holes in poured concrete. The correct anchors for concrete are expanding sleeve anchors that grip tighter as the bolt is tightened. Standard plastic wall plugs are not adequate for heavy TVs on concrete.
Concrete block walls are found in some buildings and look similar to poured concrete but are made of individual blocks mortared together. The blocks are slightly softer and more prone to crumbling around anchor holes if the wrong drill bit or excessive force is used. Heavy-duty anchors designed for hollow or semi-hollow block work provide the most reliable hold.
Plasterboard walls, also called drywall or gypsum board, are common as partition walls within apartments. They are hollow behind the surface and cannot support a TV using standard anchors. The correct approach is to locate the metal studs behind the plasterboard and bolt the bracket into the studs. If studs are not positioned where the bracket needs to go, specialized toggle bolt anchors that spread the load across a large area behind the board can support lighter TVs. For TVs over 40 inches on plasterboard, stud mounting is strongly recommended.
Choosing the Right Bracket
TV brackets come in three types, each serving a different purpose.
Fixed brackets hold the TV flat against the wall with minimal gap. This provides the slimmest profile and cleanest look. The TV cannot be adjusted after mounting — it faces straight forward permanently. Best for living rooms where the viewing position is always directly in front of the TV.
Tilting brackets allow the TV to angle downward by 5 to 15 degrees. This is useful when the TV is mounted higher than ideal viewing height — for example, above a fireplace or in a bedroom where viewing is from a lying-down position. The downward tilt improves the viewing angle without moving the TV.
Full-motion brackets, also called articulating brackets, are the most versatile. They extend the TV away from the wall on an arm, allowing swivel left and right, tilt up and down, and sometimes rotation. This is ideal for corner mounting, open-plan rooms where viewing happens from multiple positions, or when the TV needs to be angled toward different seating areas at different times.
The bracket must be rated for your TV's weight and compatible with its VESA mounting pattern — the standardized hole spacing on the back of the TV.
The Height Question
The most common TV mounting mistake is mounting too high. When a TV is too high, viewers tilt their heads upward, causing neck strain during extended viewing. The ideal mounting height places the center of the TV screen at seated eye level, which for most people sitting on a standard sofa is approximately 42 to 48 inches from floor to screen center.
This often feels lower than expected. People instinctively want the TV at standing eye level, which creates a much higher position than is comfortable for seated viewing. Trust the measurement over the instinct.
For bedrooms where viewing is often from a reclined position, mounting slightly higher with a tilting bracket angled downward provides a comfortable viewing angle while lying down.
Cable Concealment
The difference between a professional TV installation and a DIY job is almost always visible in the cables. A beautifully mounted TV with seven cables hanging visibly below it defeats the purpose of wall mounting.
In-wall cable routing is the cleanest solution. Cables pass through the wall inside a conduit, entering behind the TV through a wall plate and exiting at outlet level through another wall plate. The wall surface between the plates is completely clean. This method works best on plasterboard walls where access holes are easy to make.
Surface-mounted cable raceway is the practical solution for concrete walls where in-wall routing requires significant effort. A slim rectangular channel runs vertically from behind the TV to the media unit. All cables are enclosed inside the channel with a snap-on cover. When the raceway is painted to match the wall colour, it is nearly invisible.
Cable management is not optional for a professional-quality result. It is included in every Dubai Repairs TV mounting service.

A properly mounted TV transforms a living room. The TV is the focal point — the wall should be clean, the height should be comfortable, and the cables should be invisible.
