Douglas Murray asked ‘why do we see different reactions to the Gaza war than to what we did the Russia and Ukraine conflict? Irish people weren’t marching in solidarity for Ukraine, at least not to the extent they were for Israel. There were no headbangers in Ireland screaming ‘up the Russians’ like they were for Hamas. So Why? Russia and Ukraine, on a deeply surface level overlook- reminds me of the Troubles in Northern Ireland. We had an occupying army, of the same race, language and in many cases religion. Even if religion didn’t exist amongst one or both, it didn’t matter. Because, what didn’t occur during these times were suicide terrorists, and those types of people represent something different, a drop in gear.

Somebody who’s willing to wear an explosive vest isn’t just dangerous for the damage he causes, there is the reverse of that damage which is a horror in and of itself. They don’t operate void of community, bonds and respect. In fact, they couldn’t exist without it. The fact that they don’t occur during Russia and Ukraine nor Catholic and Protestant conflict tells me something, there must be less of a perceived threat. But what is present during both these conflicts, for suicide terrorism to not exist? A deeply submerged link, an overarching authority connecting both sides.

Suicide terror develops amongst an occupying army, one which shares no resemblance to the existing community, no shared commonality whatsoever. If the occupying army were to win, that existing people would be annialted forever in both their race, religion- not a trace. So why do Westerners react differently? Because the threat wasn’t just towards Jewish people, begging the question as to what the virtues really are. There is a line between conflict of nations and that of civilisations, suicide terrorism symbolises the alien with little to no share in morality, a deeper shade of red.
