Cleveland Indians pitcher Corey Kluber builds impressive, historic Cy Young resume

The Cy Young Award will be handed out on Wednesday night (watch at 6PM on MLB Network), so let’s take one last look at Corey Kluber’s incredible 2017 season as he looks for his second Cy Young.

Some of Corey’s accomplishments:

· First Indians pitcher since Mike Garcia in 1949 to lead MLB in ERA

· Shared or led the AL in wins, shutouts, CGs, strikeout-to-walk ratio, and posted lowest ERA+, WHIP, hits per 9.0IP, walks per 9IP

· His 15 double-digit strikeout games, tied for second in all of MLB, was the second highest single-season total in club history.

· 265 SO’s were seventh highest in club history and now ranks seventh all-time in Club history for career SOs

· He was AL Pitcher of the Month three times — last player to do it was Dallas Keuchel in his 2015 Cy Young season

· First Indians pitcher since 1969 (Sudden Sam McDowell) to post five wins, 50 strikeouts and an ERA below 1.50 in a calendar month.

· Struck out an MLB-best 64 batters in June.

· Third Indians hurler over the last 65 years to notch at least 16 wins across their first 20 decisions in a season.

· First Tribe right-handed starting pitcher to earn consecutive All-Star nods since HOFer Early Wynn.

· Fastest Indians pitcher to reach the 1,000 strikeout mark.

· Seventh pitcher in MLB history to record 1,000 strikeouts by their 150th appearance.

· Sixth-lowest WHIP in a season (1990–2017); second lowest WHIP in Indians franchise history — behind HOFer Addie Joss

Plus, he and his wife, Amanda, continued their Kluber’s Kids program, through which they host a patient from Cleveland Clinic Children’s and his or her family each week during homestands.
