Intentional Living

By Deanne Argyle www.Attack-Mode.com

This week, my family experienced a huge loss. This has made me contemplate… What will I be remembered for? What impact have I made on those around me? The truth is that life is precious and promised to no one.

This loss has got me thinking: If my time on earth were over, what would happen to my family? How would they respond? What would those closest to me remember about me? I have to admit, I was not pleased with the answers that came into my thoughts. I have such high ambitions, and things that still need to be accomplished, but I am taking time for granted. I am acting as though I have all the time in the world! I have come to the conclusion that I must live a more intentional life. Instead of going through life, watching time go by, and continually feeling stuck in the same spot, I must do something to change it.

So, I am now giving more intention to what I want to accomplish. I know you are saying, “Duh!” But how many of us actually implement a behavior everyday that gets us closer to our goals?

Do you know why you want something? What is your true purpose that you were put here for? Are you accomplishing it?

I recently redid my goals in four different areas of my life. Goals that I feel would truly change the outlook of my relationships with my spouse, God, family, and also my business. Each day, I put one thing on my schedule that I can do that will impact each of these areas. That way, I am sure that I am making progress on the goals I have set out to do. It seems simple enough, but it does take time each night and morning to plan and actually implement. I took this idea from a mentor of mine. And though I had heard it before, the timing is different now, and I know I must implement it.

The action steps are sometimes as small as sending a text to my son to let him know how much I care about him, planning out my next date night, or even hitting my contacting goals for business. The night before, I make sure I have scheduled one thing in each area. I review it in the morning when visualizing my day, and even set reminders in my phone. By hitting my target that day, it allows me to make sure I don’t miss anything that is high priority. It also helps my mentality in doing what I say I will do. This is living life intentionally. Each day I am working on becoming a better mother, spouse, child of God, and leader.

What is important for you? What do you want to be remembered for? What will you implement — starting now? I challenge you to write down just one goal in different areas that matter to you, limit it to 5 (e.g. Faith, Family, Finance, Fitness, Friends). Then, create one action step in each area that you must accomplish every day that will help you achieve the outcome you are looking for. This requires intention. Imagine what life will look like just a month from now after hitting that target daily, and the compound efforts of doing this over your lifetime. Remember, you must be the change!
