I keep thinking this should have been enough. What I felt for you was real, it still is. That is what makes this harder to hold.
I cared.
I just did not know how to show it the way you needed. I thought being there sometimes, saying a few words, staying close when I could, would tell you everything I could not say out loud.
But you stood there, looking at me, waiting for something I did not give. And I saw that look change slowly. From hope to doubt to pain I could not fix.
You kept asking without asking, “If you care, why do your actions make me feel unwanted?” And I had no answer that made sense. Because I did care. I still do.
That is the worst part. Neither of us lied. Neither of us tried to hurt the other. Yet somehow we still did.
We were two people holding love, but holding it wrong.
I spoke one way. You listened another way. You gave love one way. I failed to see it as love.
We stood so close, yet something stayed out of reach. I started to feel tired. Not from loving you, but from failing you again and again.
You started to feel alone. because I never reached you fully. And slowly, without a clear moment, distance grew.
No fight ended us. No harsh words. No betrayal. Just confusion. Just silence growing heavier each day.
People think love should fix things. I used to believe that too. Now I know better. Love can sit there, real and strong, and still not be enough to save two people.
I loved you deeply. That is true. But I failed to make you feel it.
You loved me too. I see that now. But I could not feel it the way you gave it.
So we stood there, both full of care, both feeling unseen. Two people speaking different ways, both asking why nothing lands right.
And that is what breaks me. Not that love was missing. But that it stayed, alive and real, with no way to connect us.
I think that hurts more than loss. Because loss at least has a reason. This has none.
Just two people who meant everything they said and still could not reach each other.
Not all endings come from lack of love. Some come from not knowing how to give or receive it in a way that works. We can do our best and still lose someone because we could not make them feel it.
