The Tory politician, Liz Truss, became the British Prime Minister in 2022. This was not a good time for the country.
Her leadership had nothing of the veni, vidi, vici ( I came, I saw, I conquered) about it. In a short period of time, like days, she completely tanked the British economy. Government at this point looked like a car crash.
Her actions were so bad that the Economist magazine commented that her time in charge would probably be shorter than the life-span of a head of lettuce.
An enterprising tabloid newspaper then set up a livestream of an iceberg lettuce next to a photo of the PM. We could watch to see which wilted first.
To be fair, the lettuce didn’t have to hang on for long. Truss resigned after 45 days, the lettuce hadn’t shown that level of wilt, so it was declared the winner.
Maybe it should’ve been given a go in the big job.
