The Pronunciation of ‘Pronunciation’

I have heard far too many English teachers mispronounce this word. As a result, I have heard far too many students of English mispronounce it. Here is the correct pronunciation:

Say it like this, please:

“Pro” as in “professional”

• “nun” …as in the title of the female religious servant (or the sum of zero)
• “si” …as in the “sea”
• “a” as in the name of the first letter of the Roman alphabet, ‘A’ — and finally, “sh’n” as in the second syllable of ‘station’ (or as in the verb to reject: ‘shun’). So we get:

“pro-NUN-sea-A-sh’n”
