Around the jagged hills of Barra on the western coast of Scotland, the crofters lead quiet lives, just like their forebears.
Amidst their quiet churn of activity and attentive to the demands of their daily lives, they had no idea that overnight this would be turned upside down, all due to little more than greed.
“The islands of Barra and neighbouring South Uist had passed into the hands of a landlord named Colonel John Gordon of Cluny, one of the richest men in Scotland. To him, the Gaelic-speaking families who had worked this land for countless generations were simply an obstacle. He wanted the ground for sheep and profit, and the people had to go.”
So becoming victims of the cruellest version of the Highland Clearances.
