We all are shaped by our algorithms

In 2024, I was very new to Instagram. I took time, liked and interacted with reels i resonated with. Basically, I built my algorithm and designed it, exactly how i wanted it to be.

That was me in 2024, but today i believe that in the beginning I might have designed my algorithm but today my algorithm shapes me.

I am opinionated, I am a woman with thoughts but i often get influenced by what i see. If the internet is criticizing a movie, i might do it too. If the internet is praising an activist or supporting a movement i might too. There are chances my opinion might contradict, but in general i would agree to it.

Its human tendency to seek validation even for our thoughts. If people around us don't agree with what we feel, there might be 3 cases-

1. We’d prefer to stay quiet.
2. We’d start agreeing to what they say.
3. We’d stick to our opinion and debate.

In most cases, its either of the first two, because we let others’ opinions shape us, our thoughts and our opinions.

Till a certain point we guide the algorithms but after that it guide us, it will influence us to an extent that we start loosing our originality.

In the deep waters of algorithm, originality is the pearl we often loose.

We think we are still the original thoughts we built our algorithm with but with time we become, what we’ve been fed.

We often forget how the reels which are shaping our mind, might just be one side of the truth while the other still remains foreign to us. But we let it take the control and start to agree with what we saw.

Its a never ending chain, where on one end there are creators with original ideas while on the other its us, just the consumers. The choice is still ours.

Its so tough to stand on your own grounds while the world stands on the other side. So, just like others, we lose the originality and stand with the majority.

I started writing, to at least let my feelings stay original, unlike everything else. And i truly truly believe that-

To create is to defeat the derivative thinking.
