Mysteries in the Forest: Ghostly Cougars of Connecticut

There is an area in Connecticut with a dark secret, known by a name in the heart of the state. To the locals who live on the outskirts of the forest, it has been infamously named Cursed Cougarwoods.

It seems kind of strange to outsiders to name a forest that, but the locals know better, for they deemed the woods to be damned for many generations. The forest wasn’t always sinister; it was initially called the Forest of Life, for it was once a lush green forest with a soft carpet of moss on the ground and patches of flowers. The air smelled as fresh and clear as glass, and the birds singing filled it with a symphony of song. It was the perfect place for the cougars that lived in the area — plenty of food and water, and little to no harm to them.

However, it has since changed after they were hunted to extinction there, turning into a dark, eerie forest. The trees had become bare with threatening limbs sticking out like spikes, the soft moss was replaced by the crunch and snap of many sticks and dead leaves that lay on the forest floor, the only flowers that grow now are thorn bushes, the air turned to fog and reeked of death, and the only sound that filled the air was silent. How did such a place turn evil?

Long ago in the 16th Century. Cougars, or Mountain Lions, roamed the area, free from predators and with an abundance of resources.

However, a sinister hunter named Ruthless Trapper Thornbane saw an opportunity to collect these pelts to sell to the fur traders. Over the years, he had set countless traps and hunted nonstop to hunt cougars for the next 5 years.

While he was making a lot of money hunting cougars, many locals tried to warn him to stop while he could. Being the stubborn man he is, he refused and then shot the last remaining living cougar in Connecticut.

However, as he was about to leave with the last cougar, he saw what looked to be a white cougar retreating into the forest. He thought for sure he could fetch a high price for that pelt. Like a bullet from his rifle, he shot off after it into the forest. Then, moments later, the locals living around the forest heard a blood-curdling scream for help in the woods.

They ran outside to find that the white cougar turned out to be a ghost cougar, as white as sheets, with red eyes that glowed like devil fire. Lying in front of it was the mangled body of Trapper Thronebane. Then a pride of Ghost Cougars appeared; they stared at the locals for a moment before vanishing into thin air. From then on, no one dared to venture into those woods. They still look as if Satan planted the forest himself to enjoy watching those foolish enough to venture into those woods. Still, the locals fear entering this Hellish Forest, fearing that they will suffer the same fate as Trapper Thronebane.
