The Danville Dairy Daddies scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and held on the rest of the way for a 7–3 win over the Raleigh Red Oaks in Old North State League action Thursday night.
Danville (7–11) entered the bottom of the seventh on the wrong end of a 3–2 scoreline. However, the Dairy Daddies put together their rally in the frame for a lead they never relinquished. Jachob Walters (Ferrum) knotted the score when he came home on an error on Lucas Witt’s bunt and Tyler Mason (Ferrum) pushed Danville in front with his RBI single to right field. Former Chatham standout Kennen Lewis (Hampden-Sydney) gave the Dairy Daddies a two-run lead with his RBI bases-loaded walk. Jessen Copeland (Patrick & Henry CC) made it a three-run game with his RBI bases-loaded walk and Tripp Johnson (Southeastern CC) picked up an RBI the hard way after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for a 7–3 lead.
Danville opened the scoring, plating a pair of runs on Kristian Barcroft’s single to center in the bottom of the second. Raleigh (10–13) fought back with a trio of runs in the top of the third to take the lead. Dominic Jones (Cleveland CC) got the Red Oakes on the board when he scored on a wild pitch and Jackson Rowlands (Bryant & Stratton) knotted the game when he scored on a Dairy Daddies’ error. Coleson Partel (N.C. State) pushed Raleigh in front when he scored on a double play ball for a 3–2 lead.
Barcroft (Ferrum) led Danville with two RBI while Mason, Lewis, Copeland and Johnson drove in a run apiece.
Brennen Kiser (Louisburg CC) got the win on the bump, throwing four innings of four-hit, shutout ball while striking out five in relief. Former Halifax County standout Joshua Gunn (Averett) turned in a solid performance, throwing two innings of one-hit, shutout relief while striking out one.
Danville returns to action tonight when it takes on the Chatham County Yardbirds on the road at 7 p.m.
