As I get older, I keep noticing little things about myself that remind me of my parents. Sometimes it’s in the way I react to people, the way I care, or even the way I talk. It made me realize that whether we know it or not, our parents leave pieces of themselves in us.
My late mother was a very gentle woman. She was kind and caring. She was always ready to help others. Many people in her life loved her for her generosity. She never needed a reason to help someone. If she saw anybody struggling, she would do whatever she could, even if she did not have much herself. Growing up and watching her made kindness look normal to me.
Now that I’m older, I see that same trait in myself. I’m very empathetic, and I care deeply about people. Sometimes I even get too emotional about other people’s problems because I naturally want to help. There are moments when I give without expecting anything back, and honestly, I know I got that from my mum.
My dad is different from my mum in many ways. He is humorous, playful, and knows how to elicit laughter, but he is also strict. He believes in discipline and doing the right thing. From him, I learned how to be strong-minded and responsible.
When I think about it now, I realize I am a mix of both. I carry my mother’s soft heart and my father’s strength. Although people grow and change over time, some aspects of our parents will always remain within us.
Thank you so much, Anchal Bhuyan and Smriti Pathak, for this lovely challenge 🤗
