SPERRY, Iowa — USG Sperry officials have announced that the company’s Community Foundation Grant for 2025 has gone to the Southeast Iowa Resource Center, a nonprofit regional organization that works to strengthen communities and support local governments, citizens, and businesses across Southeast Iowa — including the gathering and sharing of important household items for families in need.
Through the USG Community Foundation Grant program, each of the company’s plants can annually pick a nonprofit in each plant’s local community, and direct $5,000 toward that organization’s work.
“The Southeast Iowa Resource Center plays an important role in strengthening our communities by supporting local development, infrastructure, and essential services,” said USG Sperry Plant Manager Michael Ensminger. “We are proud to contribute $5,000 to help further their mission. At USG, we are committed to supporting the communities where we operate, and we believe investing in local organizations is one of the best ways to make a lasting, positive impact for our employees, our neighbors, and the region as a whole.”
The Southeast Iowa Resource Center is a nonprofit that coordinates resources and provides donations, including clothes and household goods, to local community groups and individual families. The group helps connect individuals and families with essential services and support, and distributes donations to Southeast Iowa families in need.
“This generous grant from USG has changed the whole trajectory for our organization,” said Amber Gavin, Executive Director at Southeast Iowa Resource Center. “We have gone from helping 20 to 30 families per month to over 200 families per month, and that would not be possible without USG’s support. Thank you for helping us help others.”
USG operates Iowa facilities in Sperry and Fort Dodge. The Sperry facility is deeply engaged with the local community through workforce development programs, school partnerships and volunteer initiatives. In Fort Dodge, USG supports events and organizations such as the Frontier Days Parade, Fit Night and the local nature center, as well as partnerships with the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, Iowa Central Community College and Fort Dodge Senior High School.
