Plot

Set in the quiet town of Woodsboro, California, the story follows Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), a high school student still grieving the brutal murder of her mother exactly one year ago.

The Ghostface: A masked killer begins a spree targeting Sidney and her friends, using trivia about horror movies to taunt them over the phone.

The characters are fully aware of horror movie tropes. Led by the film-geek Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy), they realize they are trapped in a real-life horror movie and must follow the RULES to survive.

Everyone is a suspect, from Sidney’s boyfriend Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) to the sensationalist reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox).

• Neve Campbell’s Sidney: Sidney Prescott is cited as the greatest Final Girl. She isn’t just a victim — she’s a survivor who actively fights back against the killer and the genre’s expectations.
• The Woodsboro Aesthetic: The 90s nostalgia in this film is at an all-time high right now. From the oversized sweaters to the landline telephones, the film captures a specific pre-digital aesthetic that modern horror often struggles to replicate.
• The Imitation Effect: Looking back from 2026, it’s hard to remember how fresh this felt because every horror movie for the next 30 years tried to copy the self-aware tone. Some viewers may find the irony a bit thick compared to the more sincere horror of the mid-2020s.
• The Climax Logic: While the ending is iconic, some modern viewers find the motive of the killers a bit ‘dated,’ though fans argue that the lack of a grand reason is exactly what makes it terrifying. Personally, I like the ending. It’s very entertaining, but something is missing. It’s not that satisfying, ya’ll.
