Being a creative means you’re basically a medieval peasant. Land barons revel in oppressing you, you live at subsistence levels, and you’re dealing with plagues. AI writes for free, and robots are training for your side gigs. The key to survival is adapting. Are you a visual artist? Perhaps you’re a comedian, writer, or musician? Your best bet is to hunker down, embrace the chaos, and pray an alien virus wipes out the data centers.

Until the servers go dark, here are a few survival strategies.

Writers:

People are sick of AI-generated text. The overuse of em-dashes, eerily polished sentences, and robotic phrasing. It all screams mass production.

The solution?

Leave a few fingerprints on the page. Go off on tangents. Contradict yourself. Mention a childhood memory that has nothing to do with the article.

Spelling errors are no longer a sign of carelessness, they’re proof you have a soul. That misplaced comma? That’s artisanal punctuation. A rogue semicolon? Rebellion against the algorithm.

Here’s the truth: AI can’t do bad writing well. And that’s where you have the edge. So swallow your pride. Turn spellcheck off. Typos are bak on the menu, baby. Your first draft is now your final draft.

Musicians:

Record labels have been screwing over musicians for decades, so the fact that Spotify pays 14 cents for 10,000 plays shouldn’t be shocking. Worse, an AI act called Breaking Rust hit number one on Billboard’s country chart without a recording studio, a tragic drug habit, or an ex who inspired three albums.

You were never meant to make money from music. The real cash has always been in selling T-shirts to people who have never heard your songs. Get some merch printed for your band and start selling it alongside Nirvana shirts and Guns N’ Roses hoodies. Gen Z will never know the difference.

Live performances still pay, just not in the way you think. Forget sold-out stadiums; your best bet is busking outside a supermarket. Play a song, return a few errant trolleys, and collect that sweet, sweet coin deposit money. You’ll make more than streaming ever could, and tax free too.

As for the music itself, remember what Miles Davis said: “It’s not the notes you play, it’s the notes you don’t play.” So, don’t play anything over 30 seconds. TikTokers need looping sound bites, not verses. The future of music is a catchy hook, no bridge, and absolutely no chorus. Music that respects your time, finally.

Actors:

Thanks to AI deep fakes, Hollywood execs can now replace you with a undemanding CGI version of yourself that never needs lunch breaks, asks for a trailer, or files sexual harassment suits. But regional theater can’t afford that tech! If you’re willing to work for exposure (and you always have been), the stage is still yours.

Sure, you won’t be paid, but you might score a bed in a shared room above the theater. Think of it as method acting: you’re preparing for that post-apocalyptic role where the audience pays in barter goods.

There’s one gig that always needs performers: political rally crowd filler. Someone has to stand behind the podium, nodding along and clapping at all the right moments. Just grit your teeth, collect your money, and for the love of God, immediately shower afterward.

Painters & Visual Artists:

AI can pump out digital art in seconds, but physical art still has value. The problem? Paint is expensive. So stop wasting money on fancy oils and watercolors: just raid fast food joints for sauce packets. Tomato for warm tones, mustard for highlights, soy sauce for shadows. If anyone questions your methods, just say, “It’s a commentary on capitalism.” and refuse to expand further. They’ll either nod in deep thought or offer you a grant.

Anything can be art if you sell it with enough confidence. A banana duct-taped to a wall sold for seven figures. Someone literally sold an invisible sculpture. So forget paintings. Just glue a half-eaten sandwich to a canvas, call it “Digestible Dystopia,” and wait for a tech billionaire to buy it. It’ll be the first thing you’ve sold for more than your self-esteem.

Comedians:

Comedy is one of the few creative fields AI hasn’t managed to dent. Yet. That doesn’t mean you’re on easy street. In this economy, chickens are far too valuable to be crossing roads unsupervised. If you must set up a joke, use pigeons or seagulls. They’re happy to work for scraps.

Nobody is better prepared for financial collapse than a comedian. You’ve spent years getting paid in drink tickets, bombing in front of five people, and explaining to your parents that no, you’re not “actively trying” to be unemployed. Of everyone on this list, you’ll adapt the fastest. Your timing, your crowd-reading instincts, and your tolerance for public rejection make you perfect for a career in food delivery. You’ll still get heckled, but you’ll also get tipped.
