The phrase “A people with no land is a people with no future” echoes with profound truth, especially in agriculture. Black American farmers were purposely deprived of rightful access to land, resources, and opportunities. In response to generations of disparities and broken promises, the National Black Farmers Association stepped forward and filed a $5 billion lawsuit against the USDA.

One of the leading organizations for Black farmer advocacy is the National Black Farmers Association (NBFA).

At the heart of the struggle for land ownership and economic viability, is a myriad of obstacles ranging from discriminatory lending practices to unequal access to government assistance programs. Without funding from the USDA and a lack of logistical support, black farmers struggled to preserve generational wealth through land or farm ownership.
