I began to reason with Macbeth. To be or not to be that’s the question. I know this is an excerpt from hamlet, but why not use it as evidence. Imagine you are someone who has the chance to be. Why would you turn it down? The higher the stakes, the better the chances. Literal meaning of if he wanted to, he would’ve. Macbeth was judged solely based on his actions. What about his thoughts and his said hamartia “ambition”. He did horrible acts I agree, but what about the times he showed humanism. In his soliloquys he portrayed his guilt and doubt. He was shown vulnerable. Yes, he is a “brutal warrior” but to whom. Surely not to himself. I get its easier to paint him as a bad guy. But he may be judged by society. He may be oppressed. Please William Shakespeare come out of the dead and answer my overloading questions. Macbeth was a person blamed by society. He was trying to succeed. Yes, his fate was well deserved, but was it worth it? He was led on by multiple prophecies and was manipulated to do what he did. Even if he is known to murder, I don’t think he would be that driven by his own to kill his king, his superior. He would have better conscience based on his own morals and ethics. Him losing his life, his only wife, and his bane of existence, was the awakening he needed. Brutal yet much needed. Do you think he would have stopped his acts if it wasn’t for the death of his wife? Did he do all this to impress her? Was all this his way of trying to be validated? To show himself that he is of value? That he is worth something? We may never know the true ideas of Macbeth, unless Shakespeare himself was alive. I finished this book, but yet it is imprinted in my brain. I try so hard to validate Macbeth’s actions. He was forced. He was being gaslit. It does not make sense. However, he was once a human too. He had humanity and conscience. He once worked with his heart, not his head. I think the moment he lost hope in life and in living itself is when he said “life is a shadow” this highlighted how he does not care for life. How his actions meant nothing. That they are there, but not real and not worth anything. Macbeth I am in need of a conversation with you. This is not an essay. This is just a long rant based on an idea I had. Enough about Macbeth. Now let us talk about his overly ambitious and vicious wife. The one who persuaded him to do the evil act of murder. Lady Macbeth was the mastermind for his murders. She persuaded him to kill. She was that driven to the point where she wanted to be a man to do the evil deed herself. Her intentions were clear from the beginning. She wanted the royalties to herself, but she could not do that alone. She wanted to be something of society. So, what better way than to persuade her husband, who is a man, to get it for her. All this without exhaustion. At the end, her actions caught up to her. She was on the brink of insanity. She was going insane and confessing her own faults. Macbeth was going insane, but not to that extent. He wanted to prove himself once and for all. He fought with Macduff. Even after finding out his vulnerability and nakedness to harm he continued. He wanted to prove to himself that he is capable of killing someone as tough as Macduff. Unfortunately, he was not successful in his plan, but he died being a representable figure. How you may ask? The evidence is me the writer and you the reader. Here I am writing about a fictional figure mentioned in a work many years ago. In conclusion, I reason with Macbeth. He was not a good man but he was still human. This lovely thing I wrote of course lacks evidence, but I am too tired to back up an opinion.
