What is in a name?

What is in a name? When Shakespeare wrote the classic ‘Romeo and Juliet’ he felt that name did not matter much. He asked ‘what is in a name’. But if you ask me now, it means a lot to me after the horrifying experience of having rush to a meeting venue from another venue.

On Friday, the 15th July 2023, I got an invite to attend a meeting organized by the FICCI. The occasion was the talk by Mr Ananth Nageswaran, Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India on the topic, ‘Indian economy@100 — Journey to the Amrit Kaal’. The venue in the invite was Taj Connemara Chennai. The meet was to start by 11.00 am.

But my associative memory read the venue as Taj Coromandel. I wanted to reach the venue early to the Taj so that I could meet my old friends from various city chambers. I reached this hotel at about 10.35 am. But found none in the venue. Along with me, there were 2 other gentlemen to attend the event. The hotel staff at the venue clarified that the meet was not there but at Taj Connemara. She also said that there were few other guests came in for enquiry. I was non plussed for a moment but drew a little vicarious satisfaction that it was not only me but there were others too who misread the venue.

I rushed to the venue just to be on time for the program. Needless to say, it was a very good program.

So, the next time, when I get an invite, I would read and re read again to make sure that I reach out to the correct venue.
