Scammer Tips And How To Beware!

This past Friday night I was sitting in the den speaking to my sister about her day. She mentioned to me that she received a phone call from one of the cable companies saying that they were promoting a reduction in her cable bill for 2 years and they wanted her to sign up. “She told them that her sister was not there with her at the moment and that she was the one who handled the cable bill due to her not understanding digital technology and how it works.” They continued to try and push her into signing up until she said that she wasn’t interested and for them to have a nice day and hung up the phone.

I called our cable company and asked them if they were having a promotion for senior citizens that would last for two years. They looked and informed me that they were not having any promotions with that description. The customer service person also explained to me if they were going to do a promotion it would have come through an email with your bill. I don’t know if that is true or not our bill comes in the mail.

This scammer thing is serious. Everywhere you look someone is trying to scam you out of your money.

The people who are doing this type of thing are relentless. They are heartless people, nothing stops them from trying to trick people out of their money through some scam. They will play you like a fiddle if you are not careful.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reported that Americans lost $8.8 billion to scams in 2022, more than double the $6.1 billion lost in 2021. Reports decreased from 2.9 million in 2021 to 2.4 million in 2022.

If you or someone you know has gotten scammed you must take protecting yourself more seriously. There are things you can do to protect yourself.

• If you have a support system of caring family and friends. Don’t focus on negative or distorted thought patterns associated with fraud/scams
• Give yourself time to grieve. This is serious, things like this affect your confidence and self-esteem.
• If someone calls you and asks for your social security card number, immediately hang up the phone.
• If you get an email or a call saying you won a sweepstakes, immediately hang up the phone.
• Make sure you watch your credit cards for unauthorized charges.

These are just a few ways you can protect yourself from scammers. my sister was smart enough to tell these scammers from the cable company that she didn’t handle the cable bill when it came in someone else did. Even when hearing that they tried to push her to sign up with a fake/scammer cable offer for seniors. She politely told them to have a very nice day and she hung up the phone.

Never judge a person’s integrity by how they sound.
