My dreams and career didn’t go as I wanted them to. But my ambitions allow it to go how it should.

I found out that I was poor in the second grade in primary school when I was seven years old. It was Christmas, and at our annual class party, we exchanged gifts that our parents had bought. My mother wrapped a dirty brown ball in brown paper and gave it to me. The teacher examined the gift I was giving and compared it to the one I was getting. My gift was thrown in the garbage. I was shamed in front of the entire class. That pain stayed with me, more than fifty years later.

I knew I couldn’t afford a Christmas gift. I was unaware of the cost of pursuing my dreams. I was ambitious and wanted a better life than the one fate, destiny, and poverty had charted for me.

As a child, I wanted to be a lawyer. I had dreams of becoming one. I was unaware that there were no resources available to water my dreams and allow them to grow. I did well in primary school and got my first-choice high school.
Fate, destiny, and poverty took over, taking away my dreams. I still fight life and all that they sent my way, using creativity and innovation to stir my imagination.

I owned and operated three businesses in my life. I am good with my finances and money management, and I think my economical way of thinking reflects my good money management habits. I signed my sale agreement for my house at 28. Took my dream away from the bank eight and a half years later. All with creativity.

I learned from life that, because of my character and personality, law wasn’t the right profession for me. I would have to scheme, cheat, and lie to win cases. My conscience would kill me.

I was a caregiver for the elderly for many years. Now I volunteer as a teacher’s aide to help children learn creatively, stirring their innovative imagination. I enjoyed working as a caregiver to the elderly. I learn so much from them about life and aging. From the children, because I had an impatient life, I go back to their age and grow up with them again. I am having a lot of fun with these children.

I was told that I missed my calling in life. I should have been a nurse, a teacher, or in any profession that involves caring for people.
I wanted to own my home, and I did. I know the laws in all areas of my country and some international laws as well. I am the one family and friends call when they have a legal question.

Many of us chose careers that don’t fit our personalities. We had dreams that never came through. But that never impedes our ambitions. We find ways to achieve our success with some of life’s simple tools. Discipline, common sense, creativity, innovation, mixed in with gratitude and hard work.
Don’t get angry if your life didn’t go how you wanted it. Study it, and you will see that it went how it should. Then grow your own happiness and love from it.
