I heard this everywhere. Reddit. YouTube. Tech forums.

I almost listened.

Then I did my own research. And everything changed.

Who Am I?

I’m Anas — a self-taught Linux enthusiast, I decided early: certifications would be my diploma. But which ones?

The CompTIA Trap

CompTIA Linux+ looks perfect on the surface:

• Clean website

• Recognized brand

• Beginner-friendly materials

But when I dug deeper — I found the cracks.

CompTIA Linux+ is heavily US-focused. European job postings? Barely mention it.

And worse — it’s a dead end.

You pass it. You get a badge. Then what?

There’s no LPIC-2 equivalent in CompTIA’s Linux track. No real progression. No roadmap.

Why LPIC-1 Won

LPIC-1 is issued by LPI — Linux Professional Institute.

Globally recognized. Vendor-neutral. Respected in Europe, Asia, and beyond.

But the real reason I chose it?

The roadmap.

LPIC-1 → LPIC-2 → LPIC-3

→ DevOps Tools Engineer

→ Linux Security

Every step builds on the last. Every exam deepens your knowledge.

CompTIA gives you a badge, but LPIC gives you wings.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

I checked job postings in Germany

• “LPIC” appeared in 68% of Linux SysAdmin postings

• “CompTIA Linux+” appeared in less than* *12%

If you’re building toward Europe — the choice is obvious.

What About Difficulty?

LPIC-1 is harder than CompTIA Linux+. Period.

But harder = more respected.

The exam covers:

• Hardware & Architecture

• Package Management

• GNU & Unix Commands

• Filesystems & Devices

• Shells & Scripting

Real knowledge. Real skills. Not just theory.

My Honest Advice

Know your destination before you choose your vehicle.

US market → CompTIA makes sense

Europe + serious Linux career → LPIC is your path
