A person lifting their voice in syllables that don’t sound like any earthly language, eyes closed, hands raised, caught up in what appears to be... well, what exactly?

What if I told you it wasn’t gibberish? What if I told you it was God using your mouth to pray His perfect will, to Himself?

What Is Praying in Tongues?

Praying in tongues (also called glossolalia) is a supernatural prayer language given by the Holy Spirit.

It transcends human language and logic.

It is your spirit communing directly with God,bypassing the limitations of your mind.

Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 14:14, “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.” That’s the beauty of it.

Your spirit knows what your mind cannot comprehend.

Not Just for the ‘Spiritual Elite’ or ‘Some People’

One major misconception is that speaking in tongues is reserved for a special few.

But Scripture is clear:

“And these signs shall follow them that believe... they shall speak with new tongues.”Mark 16:17

If you are a believer, this gift is yours to receive. It’s not a badge of spiritual rank, it’s a tool of divine intimacy and power.

It’s God Praying Through You, for You

When you pray in tongues, you lend God your tongue. He speaks through your mouth, praying perfect prayers aligned with His will. As Romans 8:26 saya

“We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”

Imagine that: God praying to God on your behalf. There’s no confusion,No misalignment, Just the pure will of heaven being declared over your life.

Why It Sounds Strange

Tongues may sound odd, because it’s not for men to understand.

Unless the Spirit gives the gift of interpretation, it will remain a mystery to the human ear.

But that doesn’t make it meaningless, it makes it sacred.

“For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.”1 Corinthians 14:2

That word, mysteries unlocks so much.

When you pray in tongues, you access hidden things.

Deep things.

My First Encounter: From “Goodnight” to Glory

The first time I prayed in tongues, I didn’t even understand what I was saying. My mind was blank. But my spirit was alive. I felt the weight of heaven in my belly, and power flowed from my lips.

What started as a simple “thank you, Lord” before bed after a night camp session turned into two hours of unplanned, holy ghost flow.

The holy spirit said:

“What you prayed in the spirit tonight has gone ahead of you for the next 10 years.””

That encounter changed everything.

I witnessed signs and wonders being done through me,boldness I never had before, and an intimacy with God that I had only longed for. My campmates were stunned when I told them: “That was my first time speaking in tongues.”

Tongues: The Doorway to the Deep

Praying in tongues is more than a spiritual experience,it’s a discipline that builds spiritual capacity. It strengthens your inner man, aligns you with the heartbeat of God, and invites you into realms of koinonia (fellowship) that few have tasted.

The devil hates it,because he doesn’t understand it. But heaven loves it,because it’s the sound of sons communing with their Father.

Don’t Resist, Receive

If you’ve never prayed in tongues, don’t fear it. Desire it.

Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you.

Be open.

Surrender your tongue, your mind, your control, and let God take over.

Heaven is waiting for your voice. Not the one your mind understands, but the one your spirit owns.

Tongues are not noise, They are power. They are not gibberish,They are glory. And they are for you.
