Everything happens for a reason

There is a certain comfort in believing that everything happens for a reason. It gives suffering a destination. It convinces us that every heartbreak is preparing us for someone better, that every loss is leading us somewhere greater, and that every unanswered prayer is simply God’s redirection.

But the older I become, the more i question the idea.

I realized that, There are people who leave without warning, dreams that ends before they even begin, and tragedies so unfair that searching for a reason only deepens the wound. There are a lot of moments that asking “why?” is met with nothing but silence.

I believe some things happen without any reason at all. But I also believe that almost every experience can be given meaning by the person who lives through it.

Meaning is not always something we discover. Sometimes, it is something we create.

A broken heart may never have happened for a reason, but it can teach us how deeply we are capable of loving. Failure may not have been destined, but it can become the moment we learn resilience. Grief may never make sense, yet it can soften us into becoming kinder to people carrying burdens we cannot see.

Maybe that is where meaning has always lived — not in fate, not in coincidence, not in destiny, but in us.

Life is not asking us to understand every storm. Maybe it is asking us what we build from the ruins after it passes. Whether we will allow suffering to make us bitter, or whether it will become the soil for compassion that will quietly grow.

So no, I no longer believe that everything happens for a reason. I believe that people have an extra ability to give reason to the things that happened to them.

And perhaps that is more beautiful. Because if meaning belongs to us, then no pain is ever wasted unless we choose to leave empty.
