Why Do You Hate Black People?

Yes, you read that correctly. And before you turn away from this article, I want you to really ask yourself: why do you hate or dislike Black people? Or why do you think your relatives, friends, or associates hold such disparaging ideas and make such remarks toward Black people? Don’t sit back and say that you don’t know, because if you aren’t Black, chances are you know, or have come across, someone who harbors a negative predisposition toward Black people.
The reason I was inspired to write this is because I came across a TikTok from a Black woman. In the beginning, she seemed almost in tears, wondering where all this anti-Black racism comes from. You can view the video here: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8sYjFhn/.
She discussed how someone posted something positive about Black people, perhaps about how our skin glows in the sun or something along those lines, and when she opened the comment section, hoping to see Black people uplifting one another, all she saw were racist comments. She also talked about how people are constantly criticizing Black people, claiming that we don’t have a language; but if we show them that we do, they claim it’s not real or not “good enough.” They claim we never had kingdoms or civilizations, but if you show them evidence that we did, they diminish it or argue about how “advanced” it really was.

There was a Black woman who enjoyed cosplay, a hobby where people dress up as their favorite anime, sci-fi, or other characters. When she shared her content, she received a barrage of racism, with people insisting the characters weren’t Black or making her feel like she wasn’t allowed to participate. You know what happened afterward? She took her own life. Now, I don’t know if that was the sole reason, but one might suspect it played a significant part.
Recently, I saw that there is a trend in China involving Black-coded doll toys that people abuse to “relieve stress.” I personally enjoy using a VR headset — the Oculus Quest 3. I am somewhat of a homebody, and sometimes when I want to socialize, I get on VRChat. I designed my avatar to look as much like me as possible: a Black male. As soon as I enter a public world on VRChat these days, some goofball is inevitably repeating the N-word like it’s going out of style. Getting into arguments isn’t a big deal to me per se, but when that slur is the only thing they have in their repertoire, it’s annoying and exhausting. It’s not that it hurts my feelings, but the obsession with Black people is, generally speaking, very weird.

It is easy to say that people shouldn’t care what others think, and for the most part, many of us don’t. If we weren’t bothered — if we could live a high quality of life without being systemically oppressed or harassed by people all in our business (such as when we are standing in a park or sitting in a parked car and people demand to know who we are or if we belong there) — many of us probably wouldn’t care. However, the question remains: what exactly did Black people do to other people, as a whole, to cause such hatred?
I want to preemptively address two common arguments: crime statistics and “Black behavior.”
First, those so-called crime statistics are skewed and misleading. They reflect arrest records, not actual crime. Furthermore, data shows that exoneration rates for Black people, particularly Black males, are much higher; in other words, charges are overturned at a higher rate for Black people, meaning they were likely falsely accused to begin with. This makes sense if they are harassed and over-policed more often; it is a matter of probability!
Secondly, some point to “Black behavior.” Sure, some may be rowdy, or have an attitude, but if a person actually knows enough Black people, they know there are many cool, kind, and decent black people as well. For those of you who know Black people, even as acquaintances, tell me: how many have actually done you harm or done anything criminal that made you fear for your life? I suspect many people who harbor these views don’t actually know many Black people personally. Or they might have had one negative experience and branded it as “evidence,” ignoring the fact that they have likely had just as many, if not more, negative experiences with people of their own race!
Make no mistake: it isn’t just white people who have issues with Black people. In fact, some non-white minorities seem to be more racist toward Black people than some white people are! I refer to them as “pet minorities.”
What it all boils down to is this: what have Black people done to the world as a whole to deserve this hatred and disdain? Maybe you don’t like the way Black people look. Maybe you don’t like our features — dark skin, broad noses, thick lips, kinky hair. Okay, fine. And? Just because you don’t find someone visually appealing doesn’t give you the right or the reason to hate or mistreat them.
It is exhausting to get on Facebook and see a news story where the mugshot of a suspect happens to be Black, only to see comments like “usual suspects” or “13/50.” Yet, when a white person gets caught doing something horrendous, people rarely make it a “race thing.” If they do try to categorize it, they blame political affiliations (like saying “Republicans” or “MAGA”) rather than focusing on their race and just saying white folks.

So, I repeat my question: why do you harbor such disdain toward Black people? Not to throw white people or anyone else under the bus, but let’s just say, if you want to look at those who made the decision to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, or if you want to look at who might have colonized, imperialized, destabilized governments, used CIA agents to cause different types of havoc, crony capitalism, banking systems that may keep a lot of people in a chokehold, slavery that funded certain institutions to this very day, etc. well, chances are, the people at the top probably aren’t Black people doing that stuff.
So why do you or the people you know, or are related to, hold such hatred? To have that much malice toward a group of people who have done nothing to warrant it is unreasonable. I don’t want to take the easy route and say it must be jealousy, but there must be a reason. Finding someone unappealing is one thing, but there are people who actually attack, harass, and oppress Black people. It is time to ask yourselves why.
