The excitement of Eid-ul-Fitr begins long before the crescent moon is sighted. After a month of fasting, the arrival of Eid is like a reward filled with joy, laughter, and of course, delicious food. The aroma of festive dishes fills every home, bringing families together around tables laden with rich flavors and sweet treats.
The Morning of Eid: A Sweet Start with Sheer Khurma
Eid morning is always special. The house is filled with the scent of rose water, cardamom, and fried nuts as Sheer Khurma simmers on the stove. This creamy, sweet vermicelli dessert is a staple in every home, served warm or chilled. It’s not just a dish; it’s a tradition. As I ladled it into bowls, my family gathered around, sipping on their first taste of Eid sweetness after a month of fasting.

After a heartwarming Eid prayer at the mosque, we returned home to begin the real celebration, meeting guests, exchanging Eid Mubarak hugs, and of course, serving them sheer khurma along with other sweet and savory treats.
Lunch Time: The Feast Begins with Chicken Biryani
By noon, the kitchen was bustling with energy again. The plan for lunch was set, **Chicken Biryani* with fresh salad, cooling raita, and a chilled soft drink. As I marinated the chicken with yogurt, spices, and ginger-garlic paste, the familiar fragrance of Eid day cooking filled the air. The sound of crackling onions in ghee, the layering of saffron-infused rice, and the final dum* (steam cooking) of the biryani made my mouth water.

When it was finally time to eat, everyone eagerly took their seats. The first bite of the biryani, mixed with raita, was pure bliss. Spicy, fragrant, and comforting — just the way it should be! Laughter and conversation filled the room, making the meal even more enjoyable.
Day Two — A Lighter Meal with Vegetables
After a heavy feast on the first day, I decided to keep things simple for the second day of Eid. Lunch was a wholesome yet delicious Aloo Gobi, paired with homemade roti and a fresh green salad. The change was refreshing, a break from the rich meaty flavors of the previous day.

Dinner, however, had a touch of indulgence — some crispy samosas and chilled fruit chaat, perfect for an Eid gathering with friends.
Day Three: A Grand Finale with Mutton Qorma
By the third day, it was time for something special again. I chose Mutton Qorma, a royal dish cooked with tender mutton, yogurt, fried onions, and a blend of aromatic spices. As the qorma simmered on the stove, its rich aroma spread through the house, making everyone impatient for the meal.

I served it with soft naan, a crunchy salad, and raita on the side. Each bite was a perfect balance of spice, creaminess, and deep flavors — a dish that truly captured the essence of Eid festivities.
The Spirit of Eid — More Than Just Food
Eid-ul-Fitr is not just about the food, though it plays a significant role in bringing families together. It’s about sharing, kindness, and gratitude for all the blessings we have. Whether it’s the sweetness of sheer khurma, the spice of biryani, or the comfort of homemade meals, every dish tells a story, a story of love, tradition, and togetherness.
As the three days of Eid come to an end, the memories of delicious feasts and joyful moments remain. And as we clean up the last of the Eid dishes, one thought lingers, we can’t wait for the next Eid to do it all over again!
