The Supremes Refuse to Hear Trump’s Appeal of E. Jean Carroll’s $5M Sexual Assault Verdict

Can her $83.3 million verdict be far behind?

Today, Monday, June 29, will go down as yet another dislodged brick in the once-impenetrable Trump edifice of mendacity, immorality, and plain old criminality.

The U.S. Supreme Court (hereinafter “The Supremes”) refused to hear Trump’s appeal of a New York federal jury’s verdict awarding writer E. Jean Carroll $5 million after finding that Donald J. Trump sexually abused her in 1996 in the dressing room of an upscale Manhattan department store.

Rather than accepting the verdict, Trump repeatedly denounced Carroll as a liar, prompting her to file a second lawsuit for defamation. This time, Carroll and her attorneys — an all-female legal team — presented their case before another Manhattan federal jury. That jury wasted little time in finding Trump liable for obvious and egregious sexual assault, and delivered an even more devastating judgment against the future president. That jury awarded Carroll a record-setting $83.3million in damages.

That second verdict remains on appeal. But given today’s action by The Supremes, the first $5 million verdict is child’s (or women’s) play. This means, of course, that Trump faces some long odds of overturning the $83 million verdict.

As is customary when the Supreme Court denies certiorari, the justices offered no explanation for their decision. Nor did a single justice issue a written statement explaining the Court’s refusal to hear the case.

Trump’s lawyers argued that the trial judge in the $5 million case improperly allowed testimony from two women who claimed that they were also victims of Trump’s sexually abusive behavior. Trump’s legal eagles also claimed that the showing of the “Access Hollywood” tape in which the president years ago is heard bragging about kissing and grabbing women prejudiced the jury and should not have been admitted into evidence.

A judge in May 2023 found that Trump had sexually abused Carroll and defamed her.

Trump’s adamant refusal to ever admit wrongdoing for obvious screw-ups will be his downfall. Both his racist father, Fred Trump, and the family’s deeply corrupt consigliere, Roy Cohn, the closeted gay lawyer, groomed young Trump to always, always, deny, deny, deny, and to hit back harder whenever caught red-handed with his fingers in the cookie jar (or in the honey pot).

Trump’s learned arrogance, narcissism, solipsism, and pathological self-aggrandizement won’t allow him to face himself, or the reality that he is just another flawed human being complete with human foibles, missteps….who is sometimes faced with seemingly irresistible temptations.

“Socialization” is a ten-dollar-word which simply means how we are raised as children by our families, schools, churches, etc. It denotes how (or whether) a sense of right and wrong, of morality, but most importantly, a sense of justice, is implanted into our psyches and our behavior.

You see, Trump’s was raised (socialized) to believe that he does not make mistakes or missteps. He was raised to believe that he cannot ever be “wrong” about anything, that he knows everything there is to know about anything, that he is always the smartest person in any room. Trump, in fact, actually believes in this demented worldview that he is God’s gift to all of us — if not that he is God himself.

He believes that we are here to service his needs and desires — especially women.

This latest comeuppance by The Supremes will not sit well with this man, this super-thin-skinned, freshly minted octogenarian. He will rant and curse and denounce his own handpicked lackeys to the Court for their disloyalty, betrayal, and lack of faith in his infallibility, in his God-given righteousness.

Trump and the world know that this ruling, more than any of the others that are expected to drop this week, moves him and his regime closer to November and impeachment, when their whole damn house of cards will unceremoniously collapse.
