Why It’s Good to Practice Do- Nothing Days

We live in a culture that conditions us to always be doing something. Our lives are designed that way based on the norms that have been set in place. What use to be the weekday hustles to taking the weekend off, has long been a thing of the past. Off days don’t really seem to exist anymore. However, most are discovering ways to create time to slow down, pause, pivot and renew. I call this experience Do-Nothing Days.
What Are Do-Nothing Days?
These are days where you’re intentional about stepping out of the rat race and human hamster wheel of life and deciding that practicing presence, peace, pausing and positioning highest priorities are the umpire of your total well-being. Now, this doesn’t mean that you aren’t doing anything; however, this is about BEING.
When was the last time that you’ve dedicated yourself to BEINGNESS?
We’re so use to doing, doing, doing that BEING has become a luxury when it should be considered essential and a necessity. In this culture most don’t come into beingness until life gives them a wakeup call through several disruptions. Why need that as a requirement, when you can embody it as a way of being through intentionality as a practice.
Now, I know most are thinking about how this can even be possible if you work a job and have multiple responsibilities. The good news is that this can be a customized creation and not only that, but this is also a chance to evaluate your life, decide what’s most important and start to design a lifestyle where Do-Nothing Days are part of your norm.
If you can’t customize your time carve outs as of now, you can be intentional on taking your next day off to focus on BEING! It’s also best to prepare for this experience and lean into it. If you can’t take a full day, then start with a few minutes, a few hours or stretch for a half-day experience. You’ll discover the taking the time to BE will empower your DO!
As mentioned previously, this isn’t about inactivity; however, this is about shifting from your norms that keep you out of BEING and have you more in the mode of DOING. You want your BEINGNESS to work cohesively with your DOING as ONE unified experience. This is so important for not just your overall well-being, but also your evolution. This starts with having a practice and leveling up into embodiment for a more natural way of being.
So, what does a DO-NOTHING DAY look like for you?
- Are you relaxing/resting more?
- Are you hydrating more?
- Are you being present more?
- Are you reflecting more?
- Are you journaling your experience?
I encourage you to take time to prepare for this experience and embrace it as a new norm.
