Read the First Two Chapters of Subcutanean Right Now!

My new novel *Subcutanean* is a queer horror story that changes for each new person who reads it. Very soon you’ll be able to order your own unique copy on Indiegogo (get notified when the campaign launches on October 29th!). But to tide you over, I’m excited to announce that I’m releasing the first two chapters of the book online — well, one version of it, at least —today on three fiction sharing sites, with more chapters to come:

How this will work: if you’ve been following the project, you’ll know that each printing of Subcutanean is unique. The version I’m releasing is from a single seed, #01893 (the same version used in the early Advance Reader Copies). There’s nothing particularly special about this version except that it’s weighted towards the bits of text I finished editing first: it’s otherwise a representative slice of the Subcutanean possibility space.

As an extra perk for my crowdfunding supporters once the campaign launches, **backers at any pledge level will immediately unlock the entire text of *Subcutanean #01893*. To be clear, this version will eventually be shared online in its entirety: but if you’ve gotten hooked and can’t wait to find out what happens next, I’ve got your back. (Lots of beta readers told me they got to a certain chapter and couldn’t stop reading, burying themselves under the covers to finish — interestingly, though, it’s not the same chapter for everyone.)

The personalized copy you’ll get after the campaign ends will, of course, be different, in ways ranging from subtle to obvious. That’ll be your own unique copy of Subcutanean, and you won’t have to share it with anyone.

If you want your first experience with the text to be your own unique copy, that’s fine too! I’ll avoid major spoilers in general, but I’ll also tag any announcements of chapter releases on social media with #subcutanean01893, so feel free to block that if you want to come fresh to your own Subcutanean.

Notes on how to read: Wattpad and RoyalRoad let you read without an account; Tapas requires a login. Tapas and Wattpad both have mobile apps. RoyalRoad and Tapas offer a per-title RSS feed. Tapas has a smaller maximum post size, so most chapter will be split up into 2 or 3 parts. If you have an account on any site, you can get notifications when a new chapter is posted, leave comments, and recommend it to other readers — and I’d love it if you would! I’m hoping sharing the book this way will help get out the word to a broader range of readers looking for some good scares in these final days before Halloween.
