E.T. (1982)

I like this shot from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial because it transforms something very small and ordinary into something magical purely through lighting and framing.
I also love how tactile the shot feels. I can almost feel the softness of the petals and the texture of the leaves and soil. Like a lot of the imagery in E.T., it has that slightly heightened suburban wonder where everyday objects suddenly feel charged with emotion and mystery.
Moreover, the flowers are tied to E.T.’s condition and emotional state, so Spielberg turns this simple insert shot into something quietly expressive and emotionally loaded.
