We’re Adding a New Feature!

(And Stitches for Week # 1)

I’m posting this as a separate story because I have a feeling that the newsletter isn’t reaching everybody.

With our new team of editors, we’ve decided that WIT needs a breath of fresh life.

Here’s what we’re thinking, bigger changes first…

#1 You can now submit individual, prompt-based stories.

Our entire motto is, Build your world. Build mine, too. Let’s build as many worlds as we want.

Well, now we want to build more fantasy worlds simultaneously.

So, starting now, we’re going to have five worldbuilding prompts (we’re calling them Stitches), and you can pick any one (or all of them). You don’t have to add to a Weave if you don’t want to.

Stitches for This Week:

Stitch #1: Post apocalyptic world where there’s no adult left because they were somehow dead in 2025. — Meta Marvelia

Stitch #2: I’d been sitting for the last hour, glued to my chair, when the phone buzzed. The tracker app notified me that ‘Moo the dog left the home zone.’ The timestamp on the notification was from an hour ago. I jerked up so fast the chair went flying backward onto the floor. — Jerv Nai Matrap

Stitch #3: 12-year-old Saira is left alone in the world when her single father, the sole pillar of strength in her life, dies after two years of prolonged illness. A man who introduces himself as her Uncle Joseph comes to adopt her. The trouble is, nobody in the neighborhood has ever seen him before… — HLR Writings

#2 But What About the Weaves?

Weaves continue as normal! The only difference is, each Weave will be based on the stitches.

In short, pick a stitch. If you feel your story has potential to become a series, give the subtitle, “Weave # 13, Thread # I,” and the rest of us will build it up. Please remember to add the tag, “Weave It Together.”

Also, if you find a truly inspiring piece by someone, feel free to add to it. We’d love to turn it into the next Weave, or feature your story.

In short, WIT now accepts 2 kinds of submissions:

• Individual stories based on any of the 5 stitches.

• Threads for the latest Weave.

Plus, if you have any ideas for new worlds, post them as comments here. Keep them under 50 words. We’ll add them to the next list.

#3 We’re bringing in lists.

I just found out that on the mobile version of Medium, you can’t see the pub’s subpages. This means that some of you have trouble finding older Weaves.

On these lists, you’ll find links to all previous Threads from Weave 13 onwards. We’ll also be adding summaries for these Threads, so it’s easier to navigate through the platform.

Slightly confused? Here’s a quick list of WIT-specific terms so far:

A Stitch: An individual weekly (or monthly) prompt.

A Thread: A single story in an interconnected series.

A Weave: A series of 5 Threads written by different people.

A Final Note

These updates are a big step, so please give us feedback on how to improve WIT.
