Who Am I, When I Refuse to Be Just One Thing?

Being the most expanded version of yourself comes with a price.

Hey, this is Sukanya.

There was a time I felt deeply unsettled by a simple thought — “You can understand the whole world yet fail to understand yourself.”

And honestly, nothing felt heavier than that.

Questions like "Who am I?" What do I want to become? What am I becoming? What is the Purpose of my life? They sat quietly in my mind, growing louder at night, demanding answers I didn’t have.

So I did what most of us do — I looked at my life for clues. My work history. My hobbies. My interests.

And the conclusion was harsh.

“You’re distracted.” “You lack focus.” “You’re all over the place.”

For a long time, I believed it.

Until one day, instead of judging the chaos, I got curious about it.

And that changed everything.

I discovered something I had never been told before — that not all minds are meant to follow a straight line. Some are designed to connect dots across different worlds.

People like us? We are not confused. We are multi-potentialites — or what I like to call, M-type brains.

The kind that doesn't just learn… but links.

Suddenly, my “mess” started making sense.

The reason I could never settle into one identity was not that I lacked clarity, but because I could see too many possibilities at once. While others walked one path, I could see five. And every path felt real.

That’s not confusion. That’s depth.

But here’s the truth no one tells you about this kind of mind —

It’s powerful… but heavy.

Because every decision feels like a loss. Choosing one direction means leaving behind versions of yourself that could have also existed.

So you question more. You rethink more. You carry the weight of “what if” more than most.

And from the outside, it looks like an inconsistency.

But inside? It’s exploration.

I realized that I was never meant to fit into a single role. I was meant to build bridges — between ideas, between skills, between worlds.

Where someone sees writing, I see psychology. Where someone sees business, I see storytelling. Where someone sees a job, I see a system.

And maybe that’s why it’s hard to “define” people like us.

Because we are not one thing.

We are combinations.

And combinations take time to be understood — even by ourselves.

There’s another layer to this.

We adapt easily. We can enter new environments, learn fast, adjust quickly. But beneath that flexibility lies something deeply unshakeable — our core thinking.

We don’t follow blindly. We question things. We analyze. We rebuild ideas in our own way.

And that makes us… different.

Not difficult. Just… unsimplifiable.

But the most beautiful part?

We don’t wait to be taught. We teach ourselves.

We observe. We experiment. We fail. We learn again.

And slowly, we build a way of thinking that is entirely our own.

Yes, there are struggles.

You may feel like you’re wasting your potential—even when you’re not. You may feel restless—even when life is stable. You may feel misunderstood—even when you’re doing everything right.

But maybe the problem isn’t you.

Maybe the world just prefers simple definitions.

And you were never meant to be simple.

So if you’re someone who feels like you’re too much, too scattered, too curious, too everything —

Pause.

What if you’re not “too much”… but just too expansive for narrow boxes?

What if your strength is not in choosing one path, but in learning how to connect many?

Because in the end, you are not here to become one fixed version of yourself.

You are here to become many without losing your center.

And maybe… that’s who you are.

What do you think about this? Do let me know.
