Sexualizing food

If you are single, or even if you have a partner but don’t feel satisfied, and you love eating and perhaps have weight issues, then this is roughly about something missing: the pleasure you didn’t experience, the satisfaction that wasn’t felt. People often say that in these cases, you should find a hobby or engage in creative activities.

What’s missing here is that the body didn’t get satisfaction. Either there’s no one to satisfy you, or you have a partner who never takes it seriously all the way to orgasm. That’s when you start sexualizing food. Have you noticed that when you want to eat, sometimes your thoughts drift to snacking? In the middle of your stomach, a pulsating sensation appears, and a good-feeling hormone is released. It’s the same hormone released when we think about sexual pleasure. Essentially, it’s a kind of penetration, but from above rather than below — not in a literal sexual sense.

Here, the nervous system and the liver come into play. Unfortunately, it’s likely that during childhood — or later — you went through long periods of constant stress or anxiety, always on high alert, with your nervous system continuously stimulated. Later, this overstimulation can come from coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, partying, or intense music. People who always need more — more intense music, more intense partying, more stimulation of every kind — become desensitized.

This is the part they mean when they say that if the nervous system is overstimulated for a long time, we become desensitized. Afterwards, everything has to be more intense to give the same sensation. In the brain, this shows up as a sensory threshold that has risen too high. To feel alive, we seek extreme experiences — we have to consume, use, and experience everything in an extreme way.

When you feel this and your body is craving extra pleasure, stop for a moment. Take a deep breath and try to relax into your own body. Don’t try to escape it — rest in it, feel it, and breathe quietly. Breathe into your stomach, and as you inhale at normal speed, exhale three times more slowly. Notice that maybe now you don’t even desire the stimulation as much — you’ve shifted your attention.

Here, it’s important to teach your body and nervous system that calmness is not boring, stillness is good, and you don’t need to fill the silence.

This is also where the question comes up about whether you should keep your hand outside your pants, or if you want to keep it inside, how to do it in a useful way. There’s another article that explains this in detail, titled “Purposeful Masturbation.”
