Another senior Labour figure under fire for breaking housing rules, this time, it’s the Chancellor herself.

Rachel Reeves, the self-appointed guardian of fiscal responsibility, is facing growing pressure after it emerged she breached a housing law while renting out her London home.

The irony couldn’t be thicker.

A Chancellor who lectures the nation on prudence, affordability, and “responsible management” is now caught up in her own rental controversy.

Starmer’s response?

“She’s apologised. We’ve moved on.” Eh???? 🤔

But that’s exactly what they said about Angela Rayner before her story spiralled into weeks of damage control, deflection, and denial.

The truth is, Labour’s “pro-worker, pro-integrity” brand is starting to collapse under the weight of its own contradictions.

Kemi Badenoch wasted no time, asking the question on everyone’s mind:

“How can a Chancellor be trusted to run an economy when she can’t even rent out a home properly?”

And she’s right.

Because if the person in charge of the UK economy can’t navigate basic housing law, what chance do they have of managing inflation, debt, or growth?

Markets might not react overnight, but confidence is built on perception, and right now, the perception is ugly.

The question now is simple:

Is this a one-off misstep?

Or the start of Labour’s slow, self-inflicted unraveling?
