UAE Delegation Strengthens Ties and Humanitarian Bonds with Sulu, Philippines

Governor Abdusakur M. Tan of Sulu recently met with a distinguished team from the UAE Embassy in the Philippines and the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation (Zayed CHF). The visit, which was headed by UAE Ambassador Mohammed Obaid Alqattam Alzaabi, focused on development, humanitarian help, and cross-cultural exchange with the goal of strengthening bilateral ties.

Ambassador Alzaabi conveyed his appreciation for Governor Tan and the people of Sulu’s kind welcome and hospitality. Conversations focused on a common dedication to progress, stability, and peace in Sulu, with the UAE promising to keep helping the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). In return, the governor expressed gratitude and urged investment from the UAE in Sulu’s important industries, including tourism, agriculture, and fishing.

Following the meeting, the delegation paid homage to the historic Jolo Mosque, rebuilt in 2001 with a $2 million donation from Zayed CHF after its destruction in 1974. The mosque stands as a testament to UAE-Philippines friendship, showcasing the rich Islamic heritage of the Sulu people. The imam and local leaders expressed gratitude for the UAE’s continuous support, emphasizing the mosque’s role in fostering ties and preserving cultural diversity.

In Manila, the delegation visited impactful UAE-funded projects, including schools for orphans, health centers for women and children, a water supply system, and livelihood programs for displaced families. Engaging with beneficiaries underscored the positive impact of UAE assistance on Filipino lives. Ambassador Alzaabi affirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting the Philippines’ development and welfare, highlighting the nation’s role as a close friend and partner.

As the visit concluded, Ambassador Alzaabi assured ongoing UAE and Zayed CHF support for more humanitarian and charitable projects in the Philippines. This reaffirms the UAE’s dedication to fostering enduring ties, extending a helping hand to the marginalized and vulnerable sectors, and sharing resources and expertise for the collective well-being of the Filipino people.
