Different Priorities: Tesla Wants to Scale, Zoox Focuses on Safety

Tesla is all about reaching as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. Their plan? Use existing parts — like cameras and basic sensors — to keep things simple, affordable, and easy to roll out at scale. It’s a fast-track strategy aimed at making self-driving cars mainstream.

Zoox, on the other hand, is taking a slower, more cautious route. Safety is their top priority. Their robotaxis are packed with advanced tech — cameras, radar, sensors — all working together to keep passengers aware of what’s happening around them and to react quickly to any situation. They want riders to feel not just safe, but completely at ease.

On top of that, Zoox vehicles are designed to run up to 16 hours on a single charge. That’s good news for both efficiency and sustainability — fewer stops, more time on the road, and a greener way to get around.

Tesla’s goal is to get self-driving tech out into the world as quickly and widely as possible. Zoox is taking a different route — they’re not just changing how the car drives, they’re rethinking what the ride itself should feel like.
