Suicide Squad Isekai’s Ending Is Reason Alone To Watch

It’s NOT every day you get to see Amanda Waller bust a move while she keeps a straight face about it.

If you have a Max or Hulu subscription (you can get the Disney+ and Hulu bundle), you can watch the first four episodes of Suicide Squad Isekai, an anime based on the titular vigilante team. For the people who don’t know what an “isekai” means, the word is defined as “different world.”

The main character(s) in an “isekai” anime are taken to another world or universe by (usually) one or two means: summoning or death. The main characters are generally summoned by the royal court to help them in the war efforts against an opposing force or the characters’ souls are transported after death (where they keep their original bodies or get reincarnated into something else).

Task Force X, the titular “Suicide Squad,” is sent through a portal (created by A.R.G.U.S.) to the unnamed fantasy world to recover the previous team and its leader Colonel Flag. The team is made of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, Clayface, and Peacemaker. Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., ordered bombs to be implanted in the members of Task Force X to motivate them to stay on mission and not waste time.

Things don’t go as planned as Task Force X survives a crash landing that kills their handlers only to be captured by the unnamed royal kingdom.

The story is straightforward and entertaining, though I wanted to see more violence and bloodshed.

If you need only ONE reason to watch Suicide Squad Isekai, it’s the ending sequence.

The current ending sequence is “Go-Getters” by Mori Calliope but that’s not why the ending sequence is the reason check out the anime. It has Amanda Waller letting loose and doing a seductive dance number while maintaining her stone-cold facial expression.

It’s off-the-wall but it works.

Amanda Waller is a no-nonsense government operative who will do whatever it takes to get the mission done and protect America’s sovereignty. You only need to watch Justice League Unlimited to understand the lengths Waller would go through such as orchestrating the events that led to the birth of Terry McGinnis and his taking up the Batman mantle in Batman Beyond.

Waller wasted no time blowing the heads off Shrapnel in Arrow and Savant in The Suicide Squad.

Going back to the dance number, it’s obvious that DC has a new formula to attract viewers. I’m reminded of the opening sequence to Peacemaker, the TV series focusing on the titular protagonist, which takes place after The Suicide Squad (where Peacemaker killed Colonel Flag).

The dance number got me hooked on the series.

DC did the same thing with Waller’s dance number in the ending sequence and it got me drawn in.

Suicide Squad Isekai is a great show and the ending sequence made it BETTER!
