“Why Hustle Culture Is Hurting Your Mental Health”

Do you also think exhaustion is equally proportional to success? In today’s 21st century, finding time for loved ones amidst such a busy schedule has become a daunting task. In the middle of this, no one does not even think of thinking about one’s own mental and physical health. Living in today’s fast-paced environment is called “hustle culture.” In simple words, hustle culture is a mindset that emphasizes working hands and constantly striving for success. Impacts of hustle culture Hustle culture, the glorification of constant working, causes significant negative impacts, including severe burnout, chronic stress, anxiety, and depression. It is also called the “grindset” mentality. This mindset mainly prioritizes professional output over health and physical illness. The biggest impact of this culture is on today’s generation. But they are mainly facing the following: Mental and physical health issues This mainly leads to exhaustion, anxiety, depression, and burnout. Chronic stress often glorifies high blood pressure and weakened immune systems. Sitting in one place is not only mentally exhausting, but it also has an equal impact on our physical health. Unrealistic expectations: Sometimes constant work or 80 hours of work in a week sets some kind of expectation that is very difficult to fulfill. Individuals may experience a “never enough” mentality, leading to anxiety about their professional and financial standing. The “always-on” approach can lead to performative workaholism. Leads to burnouts This is a state of extreme emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by chronic, unmanaged, or excessive workplace stress. It can increase mental distance or negativity towards one’s job and reduce professional efficiency. Long and unpredictable work hours have led to burnout and frustration. In this fast pace, if we manage the tasks, then it is not that difficult. To avoid this, we just need to follow some simple steps. Such as establishing strict boundaries by defining specific working hours and communicating them to colleagues to protect personal time. Shift from a harsh mentality to a supportive approach because taking care of yourself can improve long-term performance. By offering hybrid work schedules, we can manage time for our passion. Focusing energy on the 20% of tasks that produce 80% of the results, allowing for less busywork. Success doesn’t always come after exhausting yourself; sometimes your basic necessity is your real success. It is better to save your mental health by saying "no" sometimes rather than insisting on doing everything yourself. The current generation focuses on 'working smart' instead of 'working hard,’ the main motive of which is to prioritize your passion along with your professional life. Always remember that your real success will be considered only when you are happy both mentally and physically and not just after being burdened with work.
