Am I an ambivert?

223/300. But this is not about personality.

I used to strongly argue that I’m an ambivert. That I could be a social butterfly if I wanted to and where necessary and I could also be me and me when needed… up until Saturday, I think I could have argued about this with my eyes closed and my feet swinging and sticking out my shoes or socks(well, I don’t wear socks so…)

I did believe that I really am capable of chaperoning introvert and extrovert qualities very well and I may or may not have had proofs until Saturday.

Well, stay with me, this is not really about my personality. This is about Saturday.

On Saturday, the 15th of August, I attended one of the biggest med conference in Aba and not as a guest but as a Volunteer.

Prior to this conference, I’d been handling the page for the brand so as the conference approached I guess it was expected that I would of course be the social media manager (volunteer).

Permit me to gush a little and say, this had to be one of the most beautiful events I’d attended this year. And I’m super glad I attended too. Almost didn’t but ASUU Strike did a thing.

I was early enough to the venue as a volunteer and been that I was simply in charge of posting and we had a whole ass media team and again to gush a little, they have to be the most cracked team I’ve ever worked with. Talent de weep, mhenn. I was asked if I could handle ushering too and I agreed. I was doing that until the main event started and my media director said, she didn’t want me disorganized between two roles so I gave up my beloved ushering. (holds chest in pain)

But here is where it gets interesting. As someone who attended an event, guess who was 85% on her own throughout? No mingling, no trying to get in people’s faces, no making new contacts or at least getting to know one new name by herself?

Yes, me.

The 15% was divided between 2 of my friends who attended too and some of the media persons I interacted with to access the videos and images for posting and the ushers and organizers I briefly spoke to earlier.

I remember one of the organizers asking me, are you this quiet in real life? I said yes, with a sheepish nod. Man was a rolling bal of energy so imagined I looked weird or something.🤧

But that is when it dawned on me that my extrovertedness is only reserved for friends and family.😂 Exclusively.

It was bad that I almost didn’t take a picture until the last minute.

Bad that every volunteer was in a picture frame once or twice and I was in none.

Almost everybody got a picture with one or two of the speakers especially Rae Timzy and I didn’t.

Just me, my phone and my social media to the world.😂

Hennyways, I had fun and wouldn’t mind doing this again.

Did I mention I had moments where people would go, “Ooh, you’re the social media girl?” And of course I’d swell with pride.🤭

So yeah, in my little cubicle of the world, I still had my fun.

I still think I’ve exhausted all my social battery for the year but I need to recharge for the TEDx campus events I’m also a part of.🤦

So yeah, I’m not sure I’m an ambivert anymore. I don’t think I can defend that title but most importantly I had a beautiful and exhausting Saturday.

Photo dump coming right up.

Fun fact: I do not like the pictures but it’s what you get when you ask to be taken a photo of last minute and when you’re a very awkward person in photos too.
