When we talk about India Street food, one dish that instantly comes to mind is CHOLE BHATURE. Often enjoyed as a hearty Breakfast, this iconic combination is loved across the country for its rich flavours and satisfying taste.
It is classic pairing of spiced chickpea curry (chole) and deep — fried bread (bhatura) made from refined wheat flour(maida). It is usually served with tangy pickles, fresh onions and flavorful chutney — elements that enhance its overall tatse and make every bite unforgettable.
The origin is this dish is still debated. Some people believe it started in punjab, while others trace its roots to Uttar Pradesh. Historically, chickpea based dishes were popular during the mughal era, whcih adds another layer to its cultural significance.
Before the partition of India in 1947, A similar dish called “PINDI CHOLE” was well known. After partition, a man named “PESHORI LAL LAMBA” Opened the famous “KWALITY RESTURANT” in delhi and introduced chole bhature inspired by pindi chole. This played a major role in making the dish popular in the capital.
Later, legendary spots like SITA RAM DIWAN CHAND further popularized it as a beloved street food, turning it into a must — try ecperience in delhi.
Today , Chole Bhature is more than just food — it’s a FESTIVAL FAVORITE and go to dish for special occasions and gathering. Over time, different variations have emerged, including plain, aloo (potato-filled) and paneer bhature.
