How can AmCham chapters worldwide leverage affiliate networks to strengthen local job markets post-2025 tariffs?

Amcham chapters and their affiliate networks will contribute to the resilience of regional labor markets as business and public policy shifts respond to cross-border trade tariffs. The connections between local affiliates and chambers of commerce form a bridge to domestic and foreign actors — companies, employees, educational institutions, and government agencies — within a local business ecosystem. This alignment of public and private effort, along with skills development, creates conditions for securing and maintaining jobs in the local labor market.

Analysis of the potential effect of affiliate activity on job creation, skills supply, and regional competitiveness in the face of tariff change highlights when, where, and how this local contribution will be most significant. Contributing actors, functions, and possible measurable impact are identified as a foundation for further analysis and a basis for direct action. During 2026 and 2027, tariffs on bilateral trade between the United States and the mainland of China will rise to 40 percent. The consequent expectation of strongly rising employment in the United States will also create demand for workers with sufficiently developed skills, and employees with good English, to occupy skilled jobs in this ongoing employment boom.
